The New York Times has an article and slideshow about the hipness of out-of-the-way Brooklyn venues. The article discloses a few tidbits that I did not know. Issue Project Room (pictured above) is leaving their space at the Gowanus Canal. MeanRed is taking the space over so I guess it will become a dance party venue. They have an outdoor concert series planned. Remember Turntables on the Hudson, try Turntables on the Gowanus. Also Todd P is no longer booking shows at Studio B. They name drop Silent Barn, Glasslands, Issue Project Room, Don Pedro’s and Monkey Town. They also name drop Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dan Deacon, and Deerhunter.
I think the article are missing the concert goer’s perspective. I would be interested to know how far people are willing to travel to see a show, if they are there to see a particular band or just because it is in the neighborhood, and if they feel more a part of a community since these venues are off the beaten path.
